This year, the S-series smartphones from Samsung went well together.
The floating camera architecture used by the Ultra has been copied by the Samsungs Galaxy S23 and S23 Plus, creating a much more unified trio this time.
Even the colors are the same for all of them. They include all the minor changes we anticipated, such as slightly larger batteries and improved selfie cameras, inside.
The Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset is included in all versions, but there is a difference here:
- It is the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 for Galaxy, which has an improved GPU and an overclocked 3.36GHz CPU.
- The Samsung Galaxy S23 series begins at $799, while the S23 Plus starts at $999, maintaining their original starting prices.

- The size of the screen is similar to the previous year.

That raises the Samsung Galaxy S22’s intelligence from 1,300 units to parity with the other two versions.
This year, according to Samsung, its display tone mapping is better, adjusting to various lighting conditions and improving visibility in solid light.
The S23’s battery capacity has increased by 200mAh to 3,900mAh, while the S23 Plus’ battery capacity has increased to 4,700mAh.
The S22’s battery life was notably poor, and to a lesser extent, the Samsung’s Galaxy S22 Plus’ battery life, so the improvements are welcome.
- Better battery efficiency is another promise for the 8 Gen 2 processor, and Samsung claims that the phones’ vapor cooling chambers are twice as big to keep them operating smoothly.
- The rear cameras are still a 50-megapixel stabilized primary camera, a 12-megapixel ultrawide, and a 10-megapixel 3x telephoto, with no changes to their specifications.
- Despite the identical hardware, Samsung claims that the 8 Gen 2’s improved image signal processor is responsible for some improvements in picture quality.
- This year, all three models get a new selfie camera with a 12-megapixel sensor, autofocus, and HDR video at 60 frames per second.
- Gorilla Glass Victus 2 is used on the outside to increase durability when dropped onto unforgiving surfaces like concrete.
Since the aforementioned contour camera bump is no longer there. Let’s simply put an end to camera bumps altogether.
Despite that little distinction, the S23 and S23 Plus have a similar feel to their predecessors. They have streamlined aluminum rails and have a suitable weight.
The edges are somewhat curved, identical to the S22 and S22 Plus, but not enough to cause them to slide out of your hand or resemble an iPhone from 2013.

Samsung S23 and S23 Plus
The S23 and S23 Plus are available in the same lavender, green, cream, and black color combinations as the Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra.
Like last year’s model, the S23 begins at $799 for 8GB of RAM and 128GB of storage.
- However, the S23 Plus’s essential model storage is increased to 256GB (while maintaining 8GB of RAM) at the same MSRP of $999 as last year.
- That’s very kind of Samsung, albeit it seems less kind given that the firm eliminated microSD card ports a few years back.
- Because what you receive is what you get, choose your storage carefully.
- The S23 and S23 Plus are undoubtedly minor improvements over last year’s versions, but the same can be said about the newest products from Apple and Google.

At least in the US, Samsung needs to do more to maintain its leadership.
