It is no fun to grow old, particularly if you are a gun enthusiast. Your vision can get duller when you grow older, making it more difficult to shoot at distant objects. Changing sights is simple and can be accomplished with a few commercial materials but installing your best pistol sights can be hard. If you do not want to spend the money on those tools, you can do so with a few basic tools that most people already have. We have put together a guide to properly installing the pistol sights.
Ways to Install a Pistol Sight Professionally
If you want to install your pistol sight following a professional method, the procedure will proceed into four steps including disassembling, front sight, rear sight and reassembling.
Materials Required
- Pistol front sight tool
- Loctite threadlocker blue
- Dovetail rear sight tool
Step: 1
Disassemble
Often do a safety check and a field strip before firing your weapon. Make sure the barrel and spring are separated from the upper. All of this is a common procedure. If you are not sure how to get to this stage, there are a variety of websites that will help you get there. These resources would be indispensable if you continue to possess a gun.
Step: 2
Front Sight
Start with the front sight if possible. A 3/16” hex nut can be seen from the bottom of the slide. The front scope tool can be used to prevent this. If you’re having trouble getting the nut to roll, a pair of pliers will help you get it moving. Simply add even pressure gently to avoid damaging any of the pistol’s components.
It is just as easy to replace. Place the sight on top of the gun and twist the nut when holding it in place. Using a little Loctite to hold it in place during routine shooting can help. You don’t want to magnify the picture. One of the reasons we suggest a portable sight tool like the one seen above is because of this. If you tighten your grip so hard, you risk damaging your sight. Check that the scope on the top of the gun is even and straight before final tightening. When tightening the screw, keep it in place.
Step: 3
Rear Sight
Simply position the sight tool in the groove and use it to force the sight out. On certain pistols, this can necessitate a bit of force. There are tricks to open things up, but for a beginner, it is best to take your time to ease into it. Seat the new sight now that the old one has been replaced.
Make sure the sights are pointing in the right direction and bring the sight in as hard as you can with your thumb. The quicker it is to line up the sight tool the farther in the sight you go. When tightening the weapon, go slowly to make sure the sight is level and even. You would want the sight to be as completely centered as possible.
Step:4
Reassemble
You should now reassemble your weapons and test them by shoot to ensure that you are on track. To get on target, just use a sight tool to change the rear sights subtly. This is the simplest way to change the sights. Remember to switch your sights to the left if the impacts are to the left, and likewise.
Your pistol sights are ready to go!
Ways to Install Pistol Sight Affordably
If you are looking for handy yet affordable ways to install your pistol sight, you need to follow the below-mentioned steps. This procedure takes place in four steps including disassemble, front sight, rear sight, and reassemble.
Materials Required
- Nylon punch
- Vice with soft jaws
- 3/16” nut driver
- Loctite blue
- Lightweight hammer
Step: 1
Disassemble
Follow the above disassembling procedure and disassemble your pistol safely.
Step: 2
Front Sight
The front sight is replaced in the same way, except the nut driver is used instead of the front sight unit. For a nut carrier, it is easy to unintentionally tighten the sight too much. You can also use a small socket kit with a long enough 3/16” socket if you have one. Do not forget about the Loctite.
Step: 3
Rear Sight
To make the rear sight, lock your upper in the vice and tighten it just enough to keep the gun from moving. For power and convenience, the upper should be placed sideways. It should protrude from the vice’s hand, but it should be as close to the side as possible for protection. Some people can do this without the vice on a system, but it can be annoying.
Place the nylon drift as close to the base of the sight as possible with your hammer and make it a soft but strong blast. You will need to figure out how hard you can roll. Do not push yourself too far or you’ll ruin everything.
Press the new rear sight in as mentioned above with the rear sights open. Accuracy is crucial before the sights are flush with the slide. Make sure the nylon drift is absolutely straight up and down towards the side of the sights. To absolutely seat, it, use very light and regulated taps. It can take a little more pressure when you get closer to the center.
Step: 4
Reassemble
Assemble as described in the previous section. It is time to take some shots. Using this form, getting all sighted in can be a bit of a challenge. Use hammer hits that are just enough to move the sight a fraction of an inch and go very slowly. A small change can be the difference between being right and being miles off.
