2022 Loss Angeles Auto Show in Pictures

LA Auto show 2022 highlights

Movie stars, expansive beaches, Disneyland, and some of the worst traffic in the nation may all be found in the Los Angeles metropolitan area.

As the majority of people who live in large cities will attest, you better enjoy the vehicle you’re sitting in if you’re going to spend hours in bumper-to-bumper traffic.

Let’s see what Angelenos and Americans across the country are stuck with when the new year arrives and such vehicles hit dealer lots.

While all-electric cars, huge SUVs, and pickup trucks have recently dominated many auto shows, a balanced mix of pure EVs, hybrids, and gas-powered automobiles of all sizes are making their grand entrances in La La Land this year.

The Toyota Prius has long been known for being environmentally friendly, but with a complete redesign for the 2023 model year, the hybrid and plug-in Prius Prime now have even more to offer.

Even in Los Angeles, the Prius makes the point that looks aren’t everything: the hybrid promises a big performance and efficiency gain to go along with its external makeover.

The compact car’s new design is sleeker, more aerodynamic, and more muscular. Inside the Prius, you can get a 12.3-inch touchscreen, but because the roof is lower, there is less room for your head.

For the Subaru Impreza in 2024, changes are less drastic but still substantial. The new Impreza is only available as a small hatchback.

The front, headlights, and taillights have been changed.  The sportier RS trim, which has exterior details that have been darkened, black 18-inch wheels, and a 2.5-liter boxer engine under the hood, is also back.

Even though the changes should make driving more fun, fans will be sad that the car no longer has a manual transmission option.

A new X-Line trim is added to the 2024 Kia Seltos compact SUV, along with updated front and rear ends.

A new eight-speed automatic transmission and a 20-horsepower increase in the engine’s optional turbocharged 1.6-liter four-cylinder round out the changes.

Two 10.25-inch screens are put together to make a unique panoramic dashboard display for the infotainment system and digital gauge cluster.

Even while electric cars had to compete for attention this year, one in particular still managed to steal the show. The Hyundai Ioniq 6 was first shown at the Los Angeles auto show in early 2022.

The Ioniq 6 shares a platform with the Ioniq 5 SUV and has a sleeker design with a dramatic swooping roofline. It also has a significantly shorter wheelbase.

Hyundai also claims to offer a more generous range, but has not yet revealed the numbers.

Fiat 500 e at la auto show 2022

The all-electric Fiat 500e was reintroduced as yet another new battery-powered vehicle. The subcompact car will arrive in the United States, according to Fiat, but not right away.

The U.S. version won’t debut until the 2023 Los Angeles Auto Show and is only anticipated to reach dealerships in 2024.

Three special-edition models based on well-known Italian designers were used to show off the European version in Los Angeles.

The 500X SUV is the sole model of the brand now available in the United States.

Genesis X convertible

Three alternative-fuel concept automobiles made their debuts in the “less realistic, but still spectacular” category.

The stylish Genesis X Convertible is the last part of the automaker’s all-electric X concept series, which also includes the Genesis X grand tourer and the X Speedium Coupe.

bZ compact SUV front

Toyota showed off the bZ Compact SUV Concept, which is part of its all-electric bZ sub-brand and is smaller than the bZ4X SUV.

The latest version of the famous Porsche sports car is a high-riding vehicle that can go off-road.

It was inspired by both the Porsche 953 that won the 1984 Paris-Dakar Rally and the current trend of off-roading “Safari 911s.”

It can handle rough roads and still look stylish on the street thanks to its strong treads, towing lugs, enlarged wheel wells, protective stainless steel all over, and optional camping gear that can be stored on top.

Price Tag

The $222,000 911 Dakar will only be offered in 2,500 units. As part of the Rallye De, the 3-liter bi-turbo six-cylinder racing livery from the Dakar-winning 953 and later 959 models of the 1980s is available in two-tone.

Vinfast 2022 la auto show

The 2022 VinFast VF-6

At CES this year, VinFast teased the VF 6, and the Vietnamese startup is now a lot closer to releasing them for retail sale.

The VinFast VF 6 and VF 7 are two new compact SUVs that the Vietnamese EV startup VinFast has added to its expanding inventory.

The VF 8 and VF 9 will soon be sold in the US along with the two smaller crossovers made by Pininfarina and Torino Design.

Dave Lyon, the lead designer at VinFast, described the designs as “futuristic” and cautioned against underestimating the midsize and compact crossovers despite their smaller size when compared to VinFast’s other SUVs. Both have a flat, open floor and five seats.

The battery is positioned low across the bottom of the floor in both, which come in two trims: Eco and Plus, the latter of which has a panoramic glass roof and more horsepower and torque (201 hp for the 6 Plus and 349 on the 7 Plus).

Closing Thoughts

Since COVID-19, auto displays haven’t been quite as spectacular as they once were, but the 2022 Los Angeles Auto International Show nevertheless dazzled despite having a more somber atmosphere.

On the show floor and in the activities related to the show, new concepts and a sense of anticipation seeped in. Along with futuristic visions of what EVs might one day look like, new designs for well-known hybrids, SUVs, and other vehicles were unveiled.

If you live in Southern California, you can expect to see everything on display at the show, including minivans, convertibles, sports cars, and avant-garde designs.
