Samsung's Two Direction Fold OLED Display

The new Samsung display used OLED technology and was manufactured by the company.

It is believed that Samsung will follow suit later on in this year.
The Galaxy Z Flip 4 has a U-shaped hinge, so the crease in the screen is more noticeable on the Galaxy Z Flip 4 and the Galaxy Z Fold 4, which are Samsung’s most recent foldable smartphones.
Despite this, the problem is minor as long as the gadget is used.

However, Samsung may surprise everyone by releasing 360-degree leaflets, even though it seems odd that the company would exhibit a technology on a prototype only a few months before the product goes on sale in stores.

Galaxy Z Flip 4:

When it comes to foldable, the display panels that are used are flexible.

If you remove one of these display panels from a smartphone, you will find that it can bend however you want it to.

The hinge, when it is included in a handset, is what decides how the phone will fold when it is folded.
It may be vertical or horizontal, depending on how the hinge is designed.
Some phones fold inward, like the Galaxy Z Flip 4, and even ones that fold outwards, like the Huawei Mate X, but there has yet to be a phone that folds in either direction on the same hinge.

At the recently concluded CES 2023, Samsung exhibited a unique hinge design that included a 360-degree rotation and could perform the function mentioned earlier.

Galaxy Z Fold 4

You will notice that the prototype appears to be very similar to the Galaxy Z Fold 4, but there is a significant difference between the two.

The prototype can also fold backward and has a display that reads “Flex In & Out” that wraps around its left side.

The Galaxy Z Fold 4 can only fold in one direction.
Reports indicate that this ground-breaking hinge not only contributes to the phone’s flexibility but also reduces the pressure put on the sensitive display.
It directly contributes to the fact that the crease that appears when the phone is opened into a flat position is now less noticeable.
When Samsung first demonstrated its tri-folding phone a couple of years ago, it included two separate hinges separating the display into three pieces.
A single unit performs the hinge in either direction.
It makes the most recent version of that hinge a vast improvement regarding how well it works and how smart it is.

Galaxy Z Fold 5:

The technology has yet to be ready for prime time, and it is doubtful that it will be incorporated into any Galaxy foldable introduced this year.

These iterations and form factors have proven unique, although they contain faults.
Although other manufacturers like Motorola, Oppo, and TCL have also sought to get folding phones into the hands of users, Counterpoints Research indicates that Samsung has mainly led the charge on folding phones.
Samsung is the biggest Android maker. On the other hand, several other manufacturers have also attempted to sell consumers folding smartphones.

OLED Designs

Although the majority of the flexible OLED designs we’ve seen so far have been folding displays (with one significant exception from TCL), we have seen manufacturers dabble with rolling devices (which Samsung refers to as “slidable”) in prototypes and demos.

Once it has been unfurled, the Flex Slidable Solo can only grow in one direction, but the Flex Slidable Duet can expand in both directions once it has been unfolded.

Given Samsung’s push for folding mobile devices and the Flex Hybrid displays’ form factor, we will see this technology appear in something similar to a Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Fold, which reduces its 16-inch display down to a 12-inch footprint when folded up.
It is still being determined whether or not we will see this technology on any production devices.
Still, given Samsung’s push for folding mobile devices and the Flex Hybrid displays’ form factor, we will likely see this technology.

Also, it needs to be clarified if this technology will be used on any manufacturing machines soon.

If Samsung made smartphones with Flex Hybrid displays, electronic devices would be more responsive to the needs of their users in the here and now.
